Why is it called the Fringe?
Here in the Forest we’re a hinterland on the edges of everything - outside of the cities, on the border of two countries and between the banks of two rivers… a collection of idiosyncratic towns and villages, distinct communities and a lot of trees! Like traditional Fringe festivals are a collection of acts, we are a collection of diverse places and communities. The FOD Fringe celebrates this through the arts!

Why put on a Fringe Festival?
The Forest of Dean has a rich history of festivals, carnivals, pageants and community events. After having loads of brilliant conversations with Forest residents in our 2022 community consultation, the idea of a fringe festival for the Forest of Dean emerged.
A Fringe festival is an arts festival featuring unusual, alternative, or experimental performances and exhibitions. The events are usually self-produced by the artists and performers involved - making Fringe festivals a great way for new and up-and-coming work to be seen, heard, and enjoyed by a local audience! Our aim is to celebrate arts and culture while creating opportunities for everyone to get involved.
